Positive outlook for long-term jobs market
The Recruitment and Employment Confederation’s JobsOutlook for March shows most employers expect to keep staff levels the same or increase their workforce in the coming year.
The long-term prospects for the UK jobs market are good, according to new research.
March’s JobsOutlook from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) shows that 94 per cent of employers expect to either keep their workforces at the same numbers or recruit further in the 12 months ahead.
Although many economic commentators think total unemployment will increase further in the next few months, some sectors are planning for expansion and need to bring in staff to see through their plans.
For example, in the retail industry there are companies at each end of the market - such as big grocers Asda and Morrisons, and bargain retailers Poundland and 99p Stores - which are all looking to create jobs in 2010.
Roger Tweedy, REC Director of Research, commented: “On the whole, the longer term outlook for UK jobs continues to be positive with the vast majority of employers not expecting to make further job cuts and nearly 20 per cent expecting to increase staffing levels over the coming year.”
