Waitrose boss details FMCG plans
Waitrose could soon become a fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) brand in the manner of Kellogg’s and Heinz, according to the grocer’s boss Mark Price.
Managing Director of Waitrose Mark Price has plans to sell the company’s goods in other retailers' stores, effectively becoming a fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) brand.
He revealed potential new directions for the business in an interview with the Observer this weekend.
Detailing plans to increase Waitrose’s brand exposure, Mr Price told the newspaper that the group could end up creating partnerships with other retailers in a similar manner to FMCG giants Heinz and Kellogg's.
He said: “What we are trying to do is give access to the brand and it is not just about owning shops.
“It is about taking a creative approach and making products available to as many people as possible. We are looking to work with partners.”
It is a busy period for Waitrose at present. Not only is the company looking to launch the above scheme at various Boots UK stores this month, it is also partway through a new store programme that involves opening a number of former Somerfield-owned sites in different parts of England.
Storrington and Lutterworth are among the towns where Waitrose has opened shops this year, while another store is scheduled to start trading in Melksham this week. The company is going places.
